In the oldest town of Kosovo, Novoberde, 35 kilometers southeast of
Prishtina, archaeologists keep discovering artifacts and ancient
objects. The city castle, which after the war has been called by the
Albanian name, Artane, is now under construction.
The project is being financed by the European Commission, and has an initial value of 2 million EUR. It aims to preserve the 13th century castle, where 40,000 people are believed to have lived during the Byzantum empire.
Croatian and Albanian archaeologists have been working for two months with this project. Fitim Bunjaku, manager of the project for preserving the castle, spoke for Top Channel about the new discoveries.
Archaeologists have found the main entrance of the castle, the water wells and other things that were used hundreds of years ago by the residents.
While it is being restored, the castle remains open for visitors. Rural tourism goes on in this city, counting 10,000 visitors only in the past year from the Rural Tourism Center.
Novoberda families offer accommodation for tourists in their homes, where they have arranged lodges for visitors. They offer traditional food and apartments with two bedrooms.
The Novoberda Castle, where Feime Novoberdaliu welcomes tourists at her restaurant and lodge, is also surrounded by ancient religious objects, such as cathedrals and mosques, since the city has hosted different religious in different periods.
