Not enough information for tourists

Dozens of foreign tourists visit Tirana and other Albanian cities each
day. Regardless the numerous alternatives that they can visit, they
don’t have enough information to chose where they will go.

“There is not enough information about Albania in the original countries. It mostly comes from the internet, which in Albania is limited. We have people that contact us just for information”, says Endri Shima, administrator of a tourist company.

What leads the foreigners and their guides to Albania? According to Carina Giel, leader of a group of polish tourists, they can find more information about Albania in their country than here.

“We usually take information from the polish agencies. They know exactly what we should visit”, Giel says.

If you don’t get information through this way, your holidays could be with senseless wandering around our country.

“I haven’t found anything. A few days ago I secured information for some places that we wanted to visit, such as Kruja. We made sure for this by paying local tourist operators, while we could have visited the castle for free”, Giel declared.

The territory of tourist services now belongs only to private operators. The information offices have ceased to exist.

“There are information offices but most of them do not operate, and even when they do, they lack of the necessary information”, Shima declared.

If the measures are not taken since the beginning, the holidays in Albania could go beyond a usual adventure.

“You cannot come here without a guide. You need a local guide to show you what and where. It is very difficult from the internet. You can take information from several people, but not from the authorities and the oficial websites”, declared the leader of the tourist group.

Albania has been valued as an interesting tourist destination. History, culture and the diversity of tourism have a lot to offer to foreigners who have not visited our country before.
