The roadblocks set by Serbian parallel structures in Northern Kosovo are expected to be removed tomorrow.
The decision came after a meeting of the Serbian leaders of Northern Communes with the Serbian President, Boris Tadic in Belgrade.
The representatives decided to accept the agreement between Kosovo, KFOR and Serbia.
Radenko Nedeljkovic, head of the so-called Mitrovica District, a parallel institution, declared after the meeting that they will continue the cooperation with the Serbian institutions, and asked the Serbian President to keep the efforts for preserving the Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council.
Tomorrow is expected another meeting with the parallel institution “The Council of Serbian Communes in Northern Kosovo”.
Oliver Ivanovic, State Secretary for Kosovo in the Serbian Government, declared for Top-Channel through a phone call that the Tuesday’s meeting will be decisive for the roadblocks. He added that he doesn’t want to influence the decision of the “Council of Communes”, but he hopes that it will be for removing the roadblocks.
The Serbian citizens have been staying for two weeks on the roadblocks that were set in the roads leading to the border checkpoints of Jarinje in Leposavic and that of Bernjak in Zubin Potok.
These measures were taken after the Kosovo Special Units acted for taking under control the two border checkpoints, by executing the Kosovo government order for banning Serbian goods in the country. During this operation, one Kosovo Special forces agent, Enver Zymberi, lost his life.
The Serbians burned one of the checkpoints a few days after the Special Units withdrew from that area.
The border 1 and 31 are currently under the control of NATO troops, and the surrounding area is declared “Military Restricted Area”, in which soldiers are allowed to use their deadly weapons in case of need.
KFOR commander, Erhard Buhler warned the Serbians to remove the roadblocks, and that KFOR was ready to use force if needed.
