The main roads that connect with the border checkpoints in Leposavic and
Bernjak, Zubin Potok, remain blocked by the Serbian parallel
structures.

The roadblocks were not removed even after the agreement between KFOR and the Kosovo government, which had the agreement of Serbia too.

The so-called “Council of Serbian Communes in North” decided to analyze the current situation on Tuesday 9th of August, discussing the political and safety conditions, the roadblocks and especially the agreement between Serbia and KFOR.

Serbian “B92” reports that Northern Kosovo Serbs have invited all Serbs to express their dissatisfaction and resistance in these roadblocks against the violent attempts of the Albanian authorities.

KFOR has not declared if they will intervene for removing the roadblocks or if they will wait the result of Tuesday’s meeting.

On the other hand, local Serbs refused to meet with the Serbian government representatives, Goran Bogdanovic and Borislav Stefanovic who asked them to remove the roadblocks.

Based on the agreement, as was notified by the Kosovo Prime Minister, Hashim Thaçi, the roads the lead to border checkpoints no.1 and 31 will be unblocked and the checkpoints will remain closed to commercial goods.

Also bases on this agreement, the humanitarian aid will be allowed to cross the checkpoint only after international institutions will assess if there is a humanitarian crisis or not in that area, and only small vehicles will be allowed to move in and out the border, after being thoroughly searched.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo declared that after the burned checkpoint in Jarinje will be reconstructed, the Kosovo Police and Customs employees will return to their duty.

Otherwise, Kosovo institutions warned that they will not leave it with that. The Interior Minister, Bajram Rexhepi declared that there will be investigations and arrests in the days to come against the criminal elements in Northern Kosovo.

However, the situation in north has been calm and according to Kosovo Police, no incident has been registered.
