Albania will not block the integration process of Serbia in the NATO.
This is the declaration that Prime Minister Edi Rama released during a
meeting organized by the Forum for Ethnic Relations, in which he was
aksed about Albania’s stance on the NATO partnership.
“It wasn’t a veto, but a concern that Albania expressed, because this is how NATO functions. The NATO family is a group of countries with common principles and values, who share respect for each other. But the respect for each other was lacking for a period, after the sportive event that was mentioned here. This was a discussion and not a veto. As for us, there is no idea to block Serbia’s Atlantic integration. On the contrary, we support and encourage every step”, Rama declared.
The Albanian Prime Minister spoke about the advantage of a joint market. The forum also focused on the questions made by the Albanians of the Presheva Valley.
“What I can say is that we had a thorough discussion with the Prime Minister of Serbia regarding this issue, and I thought that he is very interested about my thoughts on this issue, same as for the approach of the Presheva Albanians. He explained the situation in general and promised to show interest on their conditions, after I will have heard them. However, I think that we should focus on education, wherever they leave, wherever there is a minority, because I believe that we don’t have big differences. The more we give youth opportunities to get educated, the better we will prepare them for the future. We will talk in details. We are convinced that this cooperation will be in favor of the Albanians in Serbia. This is not only an ethical obligation, but also my Constitutional obligation to raise the voice for the rights of the Albanian people wherever they live. To be sincere, I have more trust than yesterday on the future of the Presheva Valley”, Rama declared.
