The biggest seaside tourist area in north, the Velipoja beach, is
preparing for welcoming beach goers for this season, but the lack of
public spaces remains a problem.
Based on this situation, leaders of the Velipoja commune say that all sunbeds were placed illegally on the beaches and are to be removed by force if they don’t apply for a certificate and if they don’t respect public spaces.
“Certainly, there will be more public spaces. All these chaises that you see are not certified. We will certify all of them within three or four days, in cooperation with the Police Directory. We will remove those who have occupied public spaces illegally, or that have not paid the financial obligations”, declared the Head of the Velipoja commune, Pashk Ujka.
The commune has issued an order that bans placement of umbrellas seven meters from the water, which must serve as a walking path for holiday makers.
More than 100,000 visitors, mostly from northern Albania and Kosovo, are expected for this summer in Velipoja.
