The opposition Parliament Members at the Education and Media Commission
have broken the consensus achieved in the past meeting for electing 10
candidates for the Board of Directors of the Albanian Public Television.
After the debates held at the Media Commission, which was held behind closed doors, the vice Chairman of the Media Commission, Alfred Peza, underlined that not only the consensus was broken simply for political reasons, but the register of the past meeting has also been manipulated at the part that showed the consensus.
“We have serious suspicions that the register has been manipulated, and if we will see it reasonable, we will follow the proposition of a majority Parliament Member to send it to the Prosecution for a criminal investigation”, Peza declared.
The Socialist Parliament Member, Alfred Peza, underlined that the political reason for the opposition to block the consensus was the removal of Mrs.Zana Xhuka from her duty, the head of the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Audit of Assets.
“The opposition withdrew due to their political agenda. Mr.Hoxha declared in the Commission that after the removal of Mrs.Zana Xhuka from duty through a Parliament decision, the opposition will follow another political agenda, which made them withdraw from this consensus that we had reached in the past meeting”, Peza declared.
The Parliament Members had agreed in the past meeting that the election of the candidacies should be made through a formula, with the opposition bringing 20 names, and the majority 20 others, until they reached to the final 10 candidacies. But the Democratic Party Parliament Member, Luciano Boci, declared that this formula was not accepted.
“The process is in a stalemate due to the political consensus formula, and the establishing of a list from both parties, within the legal limits. Our proposition has not been accepted by the majority, because through the power of votes they want to establish the procedure and the election of the people who will be in the Board of Directors of the Public Television. The law is very clear that we need political consensus for five members, who should remain after the elimination of the other candidacies from the majority and the opposition”, Boci declared.
“It is the first time in the history of pluralism and the modern democratic world that an opposition kicks away the consensus offered by the majority. This opposition has a militant approach in the election of the new Board of Directors, and not a depoliticized approach, as the majority is offering. They want to have a political command of institutions such as the Albanian Public Radio and Television”, Peza declared.
