Nishani: Loyal to the Constitution

The newly elected as the next President of Albania, Bujar Nishani, gave
his first interview as President for Top Channel’s “Top Story”,
presenting some of his stances regarding the key issues that he will
face in this important post. He explained his health situation and the
rehabilitation after a delicate operation in the blood vessels of the
brain. Nishani declared that there have been speculations about his
health, after his candidacy.
Bujar Nishani, elected President: I haven’t identified the source of this speculation, because it wasn’t in my interest, but I believe that its goal was to discourage the MPs. The US Ambassador, Mr. Arvizu, as representative of an ally country and partner of Albania, had a brief conversation with me and I received a very humane message from him, wishing me good luck.
As for his political position, Nishani declared that he will respect the Constitution of Albania. He declared that he resigned from the Democratic Party and that will stay on this duty until the end of his 5 year mandate.
Bujar Nishani: I handed my resignation from the Democratic Party, and I see the Presidential post as a successful closure of a political career. I have never had any ambitions after this post. Our society is open and there is room for everyone. After my mandate as president, my political activity could continue in the civil society and institutions. I don’t see any direct political involvement after this mandate will be over.
The President answered to the questions about January 21st
Bujar Nishani: There are two moments: the right to protest, which is a constitutional right that should be guaranteed and respected, and the attack against the state institutions, which is unacceptable at any case. There were moments when the President could give calming messages, because every activity that damages the state is bad for us. We are in a moment when Albania needs calmness, a confrontation of alternatives and functional institutions. The state and the institutions are the image of the state, of the citizens, and a delicate moment remains in the memory of the citizens and the international community for a long time; hence we must be correct with the state institutions.
As for the Liberation day, the Head of the State declared that he will respect the law that sees 29 November as a holiday. He also valued the work of the Secret Service director.
Bujar Nishani: The President will celebrate the Liberation Day according to the state protocol. Everyone must be open and direct. For as long that the November 29th is in the law, there is no reason to not celebrate it. The protocol will be respected.
Justice will be one of the main pillars of his five year old mandate
Bujar Nishani: I have perceived that the main challenge is the engagement and contribution of the President in the justice system, as one of the most important areas in the life of every citizen. The president has a role to play in the justice system reforms, but will be unable to make it all alone. It can be made by cooperating with the professionals of this area and the other institutions, mainly the Parliament, the High Council of Justice, which directly represents the Albanian judges, and the experts of this area.
Nishani says that whn his mandate will be over, he will not return to politics.
