New SP proposition for electoral funding of parties

12/10/2016 00:00

Taulant Balla from the Socialist Party said that in order to stop dirty
money from funding parties during electoral campaigns, the Central
Election Commission should have a monitoring role, while the Prosecution
General, the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Audit of Assets, the
Money Laundering Directory and the General Tax Directory should be
directly involved in investigations for suspicious funds.

Oerd Byklykbashi from the Democratic Party was not present in this meeting. In his absence, Taulant Balla explained another proposition of the DP, banning private funding to electoral parties.

“The DP proposed to ban private funding. This would turn parties into state enterprises. I don’t want to debate with the DP, but I am sure this proposition was something of the moment which the DP itself is going to withdraw in the commission. The mixed model is the best for funding campaigns”, Balla declared.

Ambassadors, EU and OSCE representatives, gathered in a meeting organized by the Coalition of Local Observers, asked political parties to improve the legislation for funding of parties, although there is not enough time.
