The bad situation of road accidents recently has brought the need of a deep reform in the transportation system.
In a meeting with leaders of regional directories at the Transportation Service, Minister Edmond Haxhinasto declared that this reform will start with a reinforcement of the testing.
“The concept that in Albania you can buy a license must end once and for all. By selling driving licenses, citizens’ safety is sold. We need the biometric registration of a candidate, so that his brother will not compete. The testing must be done online, The pratical testing should be divided in several elements, with special testing elements”, Haxhinasto declared.
The Minister declared that the licenses for public transportation should be given very carefully.
“Someone who has just received the lowest class cannot undertake services that might compromise people’s lives. I’m talking about drivers of buses and other public transportation”, Haxhinasto declared.
Another important point of the road safety package is that of reinforcing the technical inspection of vehicles, but also for improving the service through market liberalization.
“The testing needs to be photographed, needs to be registered and not manipulated through the usage of today’s information technology. But even then you must take in consideration the quality of service that is offered to the citizens, so that they don’t wait for days and travel from one city to another. The testing must be as closest as possible to citizens”, Haxhinasto declared.
