The Radika issue deviated the Parliamentary agenda. The matter has
received the attention of the media and the political opinion in the
recent day, and it entered the Parliamentary agenda after a request made
by the Socialist Movement for Integration for an interpellation with
the Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati.
The request was accepted in a session that lasted only a few minutes and that opened this Parliamentary session. According to this decision, the Albanian Foreign Minister will answer for the position that Albania will hold regarding the claim of Macedonia for deviating the river.
The former Head of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Petrit Vasili, had declared that the Macedonian project goes against the international laws for rivers that cross several countries.
Vasili declared that Macedonia is also violating an agreement that has been signed by Albania, Macedonia, Greece, Kosovo and Montenegro regarding the Drin Basen in 2011.
“The ‘Drin Agreement, a mutual strategic vision’, clearly states that the laws that need to be implemented in the Drin cascade are the European ones, especially the ‘Directive 200060’ of the European Parliament. This project goes against this directive, which specifies the cases when decisions affect other countries. This project has an effect that goes beyond its borders and we need a coordinated agreement, which has not happened”, Vasili declared.
The stance of the Socialist Movement for Integration corresponds to that of the Democratic Party, which says that the government must act immediately to stop this project that damages not only the Albanians in Macedonia, but also those in Dibra and Bulqize, within the Albanian border.
“The government is staying silent in front of this concern of the residents who are directly affected. This makes the government incapable of understanding the importance and proportions of what is being projected by the Macedonian part. The Democratic Party asked the government to react today, before this issue involves more anger from the people, which would not affect a solution”, declared the Democratic Party Parliament Member, Roland Keta.
The political reactions in Tirana came after citizens held a protest in Peshkopia and asked Tirana to act for stopping this phenomenon.
