Interior Minister Taulant Balla, during the meeting with the leadership structures of the Durrës Police, focused on the problems of communication with the citizens, demanding that the employees of the Road Traffic show ethics and that punishment or fines should not be the purpose of their work.
“Work in the Traffic Police is not a hunt for offenders. If a driver is not wearing a seat belt or uses a mobile phone while driving, before asking for the documents, it is mandatory to greet the citizen, ask him what is the problem that makes him violate the traffic rules, endangering himself and others. So what is important for us is road safety education and awareness. The fine is not the goal. No two cases are the same. I am not interested in the ‘successes’ of the fines, but the general conviction of the citizens that the rules must be implemented”, said Balla, among other things.
Durrës is the city with the highest flows of local and foreign vacationers, and for this the State Police in coordination with other state structures have key responsibility for the security on the coastline.
The fight against the cultivation of narcotics remains another priority, emphasized Minister Balla from Durrës.
