“I had the chance to ask the Dutch Foreign Minister for support on the
European Commission’s proposition to recommend the candidate status to
Albania”.
The Albanian Foreign Minister made this request to his Dutch homologue, whose country has still not decided what vote they will give on December.
“The most honest answer that I can give is that it is still early for an accurate answer. The progress-report has just been published and all member country are discussing it, meaning that there is no official stance about this issue. We still don’t know and we cannot give a declaration yet, because the status is a complicated document which means that it needs a careful study of different chapters”, declared Frans Timmermans, Dutch Foreign Minister.
The Albanian Foreign Minister will address a similar request to other European Union countries noted for being skeptic about the enlargement, but that for the Albanian government, according to Bushati, are the same as all other countries of the block, since the 28 of them are in favor of Albania’s integration.
“Visits are important and certainly that the countries you mentioned are part of my diplomatic agenda, such as Paris and Berlin. The mos important thing is the progress of the Albanian reforms, because we consider this process as very connected to what my homologue declared, the improving of the quality of life of the Albanian citizens”, Bushati declared.
The Dutch diplomat declared that he received the request for a positive vote even by Prime Minister Edi Rama, during a meeting with him. He considers this a very strong appeal, since the entire Albanian political scene favors the European Union integration of Albania.
As for the Dutch Minister’s request about enlarging the economic relations with Netherlands in agricultural, water management and territory regulation investments, in which they are interested, Prime Minister Rama declared that the Dutch investments are welcomed in Albania.
“The creation of a favorable climate for investments is a key priority of our government”, the Prime Minister declared.
