Passing the crown from Queen Beatrix to her son was a celebration not
only for the Dutch Royalty, but it was an event that was followed by the
entire world.

This event was also celebrated by the Dutch community in Tirana who live and work in Albania, mainly in NGOs.

Around 100 Dutch citizens followed the ceremony from the residency of Ambassador Martin De La Bej. After the celebration, Top Channel interviewed the ambassador for this transfer of power in the Kingdom of Netherlands.

“This is a special moment for us, because this is the national day. Every April 30th we celebrate the birthday of her excellency, Queen Beatrix. She had decided to abdicate in favor of her eldest son, Prince Oragne, who from this morning is our king. This was a personal decision of the queen which she took today, after 33 years in the throne. I can personally say that this is happening on the right moment. The Prince is ready to take over this duty that this year coincides with the 200th year of the foundation of the Kingdom of Netherlands. We are 100 year ahead of Albania in this sense”, the ambassador declared.

During the conversation, Ambassador De La Bej says that this event will give another dimension to the monarchy in these modern times.

While the transfer of power from the queen to her son made millions of Dutch happier, including those at the Ambassador’s residence, it gave a message that power is not eternal. We asked De La Bej for the Albanian actuality regarding the elections.

“Elections are the basis of democracy and very important for Albania, as well as for any other country. The replacement of the Central Election Commission member by the Parliament affected the credibility of this institution. Politicians must take care of the electoral campaign, rather than interfering with the Central Election Commission issues. These elections are a good moment for Albania to show that democracy is growing and they can hold elections with the standards of the other European countries. This is an important step and these elections are decisive, because they take a special importance for building a situation that can make you closer with Eruope”, the Ambassador declared.
