The Roma community protested on the International Day of Roma for the
rights related to their schooling, education, vaccination and
discrimination.
While this community was protesting, the former Ambassador of the EU, Ettore Sequi, had declared in August 2013 that the EU has given 3 million EUR for this community.
While millions were invested for the Roma, their situation has not changed at all. They keep wandering roads, uneducated, homeless and unemployed. Based on the declaration of the former EU ambassador, the curiosity of journalists shed light on the destinations of these funds which if they were used for the Roma, they should not have been victims of crime and prostitution.
The EU delegation explained that 12 projects have been realized since 2008, all funded by the programs CARDS, IPA and EIDHIR.
The 3 million EUR have been received by Albanian and international NGOs. These associations have received funds mounting up to 150.000 EUR, which have been used for renting hotels for conferences, and the rest has disappeared.
This is how 3 million EUR have been distributed by the EU, which has listed several achievements, based on the reports made by the NGOs. Most of them don’t have any statistic for measuring what has been produced in the interest of the Roma community, for raising awareness among the for education, traffic and integration.
Despite this fund, this community keeps being not integrated and not involved in education schemes and the social life.
