17/10/2013 00:00

The opposition boycotted the Parliament and they have also warned to
escalate their stance. But what is the opposition’s strategy?

Besnik Mustafaj, a former high-rank leader of the Democratic Party, was invited todayin the main news edition of Top Channel, especially during the opposition time.

Ilir Paço: As former Foreign Minister, can give an evaluation about the positive proposition of the European Commission for Albania’s candidate status?

Besnik Mustafaj: I want to congratulate the Albanian political class, and especially the Democratic Party, because this step was taken by their government and it is an encouragement for the entire political class.

Ilir Paço: Do you see a strategy of the Albanian opposition one month after the new government?

Besnik Mustafaj: I don’t see an opposition with a strategy. We see a reactive opposition that is not correlated with the fact that the Democratic Party is old in the Albanian political scene, is experienced in the opposition and government, and it is unforgivable that they don’t have a strategy. The Democratic Party has a head today, but no body. Most of the democrats are not happy with the leadership, other are scared for their jobs.

Ilir Paço: Do you see a double leading of the Democratic Party by Berisha and Basha altogether?

Besnik Mustafaj: I think there’s more than that. Berisha is leaving Basha in the shadow, and this is damaging Basha himself. Berisha is doing this for pragamatic reason, because leaving free hand to the new Democratic Party leader means that there should be an analysis for the loss. Berisha is hampering the revival of the Democratic Party.

Ilir Paço: How do you see the political debate for the Normative Act, and is this a battle that should be held?

Besnik Mustafaj: Certainly. With this act, something bad has happened that has ruined a consensus reached with great efforts. This damages the political climate. The majority took this in consideration. The Democratic Party should have defended this law in a different way, in Parliament, so that the Albanian people could know about the arguments. We don’t know the arguments of the Democratic Party on this matter.
