After the electoral campaign promises, the Mayor of Tirana, Lulzim
Basha, undertook actions for freeing the sidewalks from the bars’
tables.
One year later, the operation seems to have failed and the citizens express their indignations for the sidewalks occupied by the bars’ chairs and tables.
They need to chose if they will force themselves among the tables while the others are enjoying their coffee on the sidewalk, or if they will get down on the street and face the vehicles.
“It’s not normal. The law must be respected until the end. This is very difficult”, says one pedestrian.
“You can see it. The road is made for pedestrians and you see cars there. It’s up to the Municipality”, an elder citizen adds.
This fashion has gone beyond the Block now, even in other neighborhoods.
While the sensational operations for freeing the sidewalks had a short life and even a shorter effect.
“He declared that there would be no more tables on the sidewalks, but now you can find them on the street”, a citizen complains.
The failure of this initiative shows that the municipality has problems with the territorial control, and shows how selective are the operations or even for show.
