Deputy Speaker of the Assembly from the opposition PD, Agron Gjekmarkaj, has held several meetings with politicians of the governing center right in the Italian Parliament.

In a reaction on social networks, Gjekmarkaj describes Italy as a “passionate advocate” of Albania on its way to European integration.

“Intensive meetings in the Italian Parliament where I had the pleasure of talking with prominent figures in Rome’s politics and the governing center-right. One of them was MP Salvatore Deidda, President of the parliamentary committee on postal transport and telecommunications, with whom we exchanged views on the historical and current relations between our countries. I found complete readiness from President Deidda and invited him to visit Albania in the near future.

“Also a useful meeting with the President of the Commission of European Affairs from Salvini’s ‘Lega Nord’, Alessandro Giglio Vignia, who showed interest in better understanding the reasons why the Albanian Opposition has appealed to the Constitutional Court on the emmigrants’ agreement between the Albanian Government and the Italian one understanding the political position of DP”, writes Gjekmarkaj.

He added that he had discussed with other officials of the ‘Italian-Albanian Parliamentary Friendship Group’, headed by ‘arberesh’ community MP Arnaldo Lomuti.

“I explained to my friends about the political developments in Albania, the views of the Opposition, I asked them for as much support as possible for the Albanians who work, study and live in Italy, as well as more space in the media for Albanian-language programs.”

“I listened attentively to their advice on democratic, economic, tourist and environmental standards in our country”, writes Agron Gjekmarkaj further on.
