Mother Theresa, known as the saint of the poor people, the missionary
woman who showed that everyone deserves love and benevolence. They also
call her as “the conscience of Calcuta”, the city she adopted as hers.

One day before she is declared a saint by Vatican, the streets of Calcuta are full of love and joy for the catholic nun that dedicated her life to the poor people and those who were dying in its street.

Prayers and cultural events are being held in Calcuta, in which people discuss her life and work, although no major ceremony has been planned so far, while everybody’s eyes are focused on the Saint Peter square I Rome. Many residents feel proud for Mother Theresa’s raise to the Saint level.

“She lived here. We live here. The status she is taking makes us very proud and happy. It is a huge pleasure to hear that she will be turned saint”, says a Calcuta resident.

Pramod Sharma grew up looking at Mother Theresa taking care of people in a center and school close to her house, in Calcuta. Her proclamation as a saint is an honor for the country that she chose as her home.

Sunita Kumar, an artist and spokesperson of the missionaries, says that this decision of the Pope is the realization of a dream for the people who think like her.

For Kumar, Mother Theresa was above religion. If she was focused on conversion only, as some people believe, all India could have been Christian today, Kumar says.
