The 30-meter tall statue of Christ gathers numerous visitors in Rio de
Janeiro every year. In front of it now will also be the statue of Mother
Theresa.
The statue of the Albanian-born saint is 2.2 meters tall and is based on the model installed at the Tirana International Airport, made by master Thoma Thomai.
“These proportions are human and people can get close to it. She will not be on a high pedestal, but in touch with the people, as she has been all her life”, the sculptor says.
The idea to take this statue to Rio comes from businessman Kadri Morina, who has also placed a bust of Ismail Qemali in Bucharest.
The statue of Mother Theresa will travel to Brasil this weekend and the inauguration ceremony will be held in August.
