Most ballots counted, first results of referendum in Macedonia

After counting more than 70% of the ballots, authorities in Macedonia announced that 91% of the votes are in favour of progressing with NATO and EU path by accepting the agreement with Greece and changing the country’s name to Northern Macedonia.
5% are against the agreement.
The Macedonian Prime Minister, Zoran Zaev, said that today’s referendum is successful, despite the fact that the turnout was not as expected, just below 50%..
Zaev stated that he respects the citizens’ will, and that the law will now be sent to Parliament.
If the VMRO-DPMNE MPs will not find consensus, the country will go to early elections.
