Mosque as a religious school

The Mosque at the Unaza e Re, besides being a cult object which gathers
hundreds of Muslims, was also used as a place where children brought by
other districts followed an unofficial school that had as teachers some
of the suspects who were arrested, Imam Genci Balla being one of them.

The children had their dormitory at the last floor of the mosque. Only four children have remained, while 16 others were taken by their parents right after the Prosecution announced the arrests.

Muslim believers start gathering at the prayer time, insisting they never heard prayers that encouraged war or hate.

“This mosque belongs to the community and gathers only the devotees of this area. We haven’t heard other things besides what is said on the Quran”, one Muslim follower says.

The devotees of the mosque in Mezes, where police arrested the self-declared Imam, were silent and didn’t release any comment. The father of the Imam was also arrested. He is a 80-year-old man in his 80s, who also frequents the Mezez mosque. He is also surprised to hear about his son’s accusations for being involved in recruiting people to fight in Syria.

The investigators believe that they have as evidence books published in Albanian and which encourage hate.

The people wanted by police are currently in Syria

All the people accused of terrorism by the Prosecution of Serious Crimes are currently in Syria, part of war formations.

Sources from the Police Directory say that even after the recorded conversations and the testimonies taken from the eight suspects who were arrested and by the relatives, the other suspects have crossed the Albanian border and are now in Syria.

Police will cooperate if they will travel in any other state with whom Albania has agreements for the arrest and for extraditing them to Albania. The same sources say that the families don’t have contacts with the Albanians who joined the fighting groups in Syria.

The investigators don’t exclude the possibility that there could be other people from Albania involved  with the cellule that was kept under surveillance by the Secret Service and the Prosecution of Serious Crimes, besides Gerti Pashaj, 30, resident of Peqin; Shkelzen Dumani, 39, Dibra; Shyqyri Kaca, 30, Dragostunja, Librazhd; Almir Daci, 30, Leshnica, Pogradec; and Medi manallari, 65, from Dibra.

No one excludes the fact that other cellules might be active in our country for sending young people in the war with Syria, which is banned from the Albanian Criminal Code.
