Russia is trying to respond to the western sanctions. The Russian
agro-cultural agency announced that no meat imports will be allowed from
Montenegro.

Albania and Macedonia were also warned by Moscow. The Head of the Agency declared that there is a problem with the origin of the products.

The Russians say they suspect that Macedonia and Albania import these products from EU countries and then export them to Russia.

Moscow says they will verify all certifications and in case of irregularities, the trade will be interrupted.

The Balkan countries were not much involved in the situation between Russia and the West, but this decision comes two day after the German Chancellor declared they will not allow an increase of Moscow’s influence in the region, since the situation of Ukraine might be seen again.

On the other hand, President Vladimir Putin doesn’t seem concerned by the sanctions. He even declared that they are helping the local economy with these measures. He says that the Russian products have increased and created more jobs.
