In 2019, about 12 thousand illegal immigrants entered our country, of which 6557 people applied for asylum, referring to the latest Instat data.
Immigrants from Iraq and Syria make up the majority of asylum seekers, accounting for about 62% of the total, followed by Morocco, Algeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
What is noticed in the Instat data, is that women and girls occupy about 80% of the total number of asylum applications in our country.
Our journalist was together with Azer, Aire and Ale, who have been in Tirana for two days. They do not want to apply for asylum here, but want to go to European countries where their relatives also have.
Arie is from Syria and she said she wants her husband to go to Germany.
(Q) How long will you stay here in Albania?
“I do not know to tell you the truth, because at the moment I do not have much money. I am waiting for my husband from Germany to send me some, to go to him later. I do not want to apply for asylum at all here in Albania… even when the police stopped us several times we told him that please let us go because we do not intend to stay here, but we want to go somewhere in Europe “.
Hosama, who is also from Syria, has the same desire not to apply for asylum in Albania.
She states: “I do not want to stay in Albania, my friend. Here people are really good, but it is difficult to find work and live. I have to go to a European country where I can take my family, as they currently are in Sudan. I have 5 children and I have not seen them for 6 years. I hope to go somewhere in Europe very soon.”
Meanwhile, the reception center for asylum seekers in Babrru in Tirana’s outskirts is under reconstruction and for this reason, the Asylum Directorate has accommodated the persons staying there in another premises.
