More business initiatives during crisis

Since 2008, the crisis has deteriorated almost every element of the
Albanian economy. The growth has dropped and the public debt has
increased, while balances of business and family budgets have decreased.

However, despite all the uncertainties, there is one part of the Albanian economy that has not changed during these difficult years: the initiative of Albanian businessmen for new operations.

INSTAT says that Albania had 111,000 active businesses in total during the past year. The data show that more than half of them have been created after 2008.

According to INSTAT, the new number of new businesses has been in its highest historic levels for these years, even more than before 2008, when the economy was better.

This surprising result might be due to a series of causes. After 2008, the main source of revenues for most of the families have decreased, remittances have dropped quickly while revenues from employment have not grown.

In these conditions, many families have been obliged to open new businesses for having another source of revenues.
