Moral rivalry at the DP

Sali Berisha’s areturn at the Democratic Party headquarters for the past
two press releases has opened a delicate debate inside and outside this
party.

Analyst Arjan Vasjari thinks that Berisha’s return insinuates what many people are suspecting. This is not a concern that has been crated now, but it raises questions about who is the real leader of the DP.

“The fact that Berisha is returning just when the local branches of the DP are being restrucutred, and when Mr. Basha is creating is portfolio as a different leader, doesn’t leave a good taste. It is also the fact that Mr.Berisha is not accepting to have a senatorial profile in the public life and in that of the DP. The question is if Basha will keep being the shadow DP leader, or if he will turn into a real leader. I believe that sooner or later we will have a clash at the DP, because it is impossible to have a political co-existence in two different lines”, Vasjari declared.

One of the past collaborators of the former DP leader, former MP Besnik Mustafaj, says there’s nothing bad that Berisha is using the DP headquarters for press releases, but his concern is about the former Prime Minister’s protagonism that appears everywhere.

“There was a duality from the moment that Basha was chosen as DP leader. There is a duality not only for taking competences, as analysts have often tried to interpret them. This rivalry, if it can be considered as such, exists even with the moral authority within the DP”, Mustafaj says.

Arjan Vasjari thinks that Berisha should review his position at the DP, if he really wants Basha to be the real opposition leader.

“Berisha must change his position, because we have an identity issue here. The DP cannot continue forever to be represented by the character, verbal expression and political concept of Mr.Berisha”, he said.

Besnik Mustafaj fears that Berisha has interfered with the electoral process of the DP in districts.

“Berisha declared that he would never return as leader of the DP party. Anyone coulkd be a rival of Berisha, in this sense. He might intervene by supporting one candidate or another to exert hidden power inside the DP. This power is harmful, because it will not allow the DP to detach itself from the past, and this is the worst in this point”, Mustafaj declared.
