Moore: Political consensus needed

The United States of America say political forces in Albania must
establish dialogue between each other. This was the message of
Washington, brought to Tirana by Jonathan Moore, Director of
South-Central European Affairs at the United States Department of State,
while attending an activity for the fifth anniversary of NATO.

Mr.Moore reiterated the importance of consensus for progressing with the EU integration.

“The classical question is if the United States support the party of Prime Minister Rama, the party of Mayor Basha or the party of Parliament Speaker Meta. We don’t take sides. Our only side is that of the Albanian people. We want to see consensus. We want to see that the positive work that made you become a NATO member five years ago should be implemented by everyone today. That’s the only way to enter the European Union”, Moore declared.

Mr.Moore didn’t hesitate to mention the cooperation between Kosovo and Serbia, which was reached only through dialogue and the leadership shown by both countries.

“If this progress is possible between Kosovo and Serbia, it should be possible even inside Albania. The United States hope that all parties can make joint efforts, regardless of their divisions, in order to progress with the European Union path. If you fail or if you make it after two months, it will not depend only from you here. But if Albania will succeed in June, if the Commission will recommend the status, it is very important for you to make everything possible to work together for that goal, to speak with the same language and to be represented together”, Moore declared.

The opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, who was Foreign Minister during Albania’s NATO accession, spoke in front of the United States official and declared that he is open for dialogue. But, according to Basha, the main step needs to be taken by the government, since the Democratic Party has not imposed any condition for the integration issues.

“It has never been easier for the government to complete its duty and lay the cooperation hand, so that we can go together in Brussels. Because in Brussels you go with the opposition, not against the opposition. You go with the rule of law, not against the rule of law”, Basha declared.

Is there any solution, so that the Albanian politicians can find a common language when it comes to our country’s major interests? Pandeli Majko, a renowned pro-Atlantic politician in Albania, defined this problem that remains unresolved.

“The Albanian politicians are not naive. They do have political culture. The Albanian politicians cannot be accused of lack of scruples or limitations for their own goals. The political goalsn in Albania don’t have limitations for the national security. The NATO mebership has not changed the political irresponsibility. This truth has turned into the symbol of our problems and historic delays”, Majko declared.
