The Haderaj residence used to be one of the most monumental buildings in
the town of Gjirokaster, but its western side is now destroyed.
The degradation has started years ago, when the building had residents. The last residents left this house two years ago, fearing a possible destruction. A few weeks after it was abandoned, the house’s roof collapsed and last April it underwent a massive fire.
According to Dorian Ceribashi, an engineer at the Directory of Monuments, the danger is evident but the lack of funds makes it impossible for any interventions.
“The building needs interventions. The restoring project needs un update because of this and other similar cases in the past”, says Dorian Celibashi, engineer at the Directory of Monuments.
A restoring project has existed for several years for this 250 years old building, and it foresaw the restoration of the 516 square meters roof, but in the current conditions, the project needs to be updated, since it has affected the entire building.
