Montenegro’s flag was raised today at NATO’s Brussels Headquarters,
after the Balkan country became the 29th member of the biggest military
alliance in the world.

The NATO General Secretary, Jens Stoltenberg, said this is a historic day, now that Montenegro has a place on NATO’s table, and an equal voice in the alliance’s decisions.

NATO’s decisions are usually taken through consensus, not through a majority of votes, allowing any of the members to veto any specific matter.

The Montenegrin President, Filip Vujanovic, said that the NATO accession will guarantee his country a stable, safe and progressive future.

Despite the opposition from Russia, Montenegro has officially joined the alliance this Monday, after fulfilling the final formalities.

Montenegro has a small army of 2000 members, but same as Albania and Croatia, they are bordered by the Adriatic.
