The draft-law for declaring Tuz a commune was voted by the Social Democracy Party of Milo Gjikanovic, who has the majority in Parliament, and the coalition of Albanian parties, Forca and Albanian Alternative of the Albanian Democratic Union.

Tuzi was dependant to the Podgorica municipality for more than 25 years. The Albanian population and politicians in Montenegro had requested to turn it into a commune, with full rights. After Ucin, Tuz is the second commune of Albanian majority in Montenegro.
