Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Policies, and
also Vice President of the European Commission, will organize a meeting
between the Presidents of Kosovo and Serbia, Hashim Thaci and Alexandar
Vucic, this August 31st in Brussels.

In this meeting, both leaders will exchange their views about continuing the dialogue for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, after the agreement signed in July.

“I think that we can reach concrete and important steps for each of our Balkan partners, by the end of this term of the European Commission (2014-2019), as they continue their path towards integration of the European Union”, Mogherini said in front of EU Ambassadors.

According to her, despite several difficult moments verified during this year, the Balkan partner countries have shown their will to progress with the EU integration.

The EU representative and two presidents will also review the implementation progress of the agreements reached so far.

In this meeting it will also be discussed about the modalities needed to achieve a final agreement in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, which would have international obligations.

Presidents Thaci and Vucic met for the first time as Presidents on July 3rd, in Brussels, when they had agreed for a new dialogue phrase.

Both presidents also agreed to establish workgroups that would prepare for this phase of the process.

The dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia started on March 2011, for the first time since Kosovo declared its independence in 2008.

One of the first agreements was that of an integrated border management and free movement. Kosovo and Serbia reached their first agreement for normalizing relations on April 2013, which also foresees the creation of an Association of Serbian-majority municipalities.
