The EU Chief for Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini, reported today in
front of the Foreign Ministers of the EU about her Balkan visit.
She visited six countries which aim to be part of the EU, all of them full of political or ethnic tensions.
“Euractive” writes that Mogherini found in Albania an opposition boycotting the Parliament, challenging this way the appeal of the EU to not block the judiciary reform, which is essential for opening the accession negotiations.
Euractive quotes a direct statement of the EU, which says that those who are trying to delay key reforms, are putting the integration agenda at risk. Comments which were opposed by Basha with: “EU must keep this nonsense to themselves”, Euractiv quotes.
Mogherini found problems in every Balkan country, for which the Russian influence is to be blamed, starting from the coup attempts in Montenegro, the Kosovo tensions and Ivanov’s refusal to authorize the opposition’s leader to form a government, after he was supported by Albanian parties.
According to Euractive, for the first time the report is not focusing on the progress of these countries towards the EU, but on the geopolitical dangers the region is facing.
The portal says that many European leaders are concerned for the situation in Balkan, blaming Russia of destabilizing the region.
A more complete report will be presented at the EU summit on March 9th and 10th. A meeting dedicated to Western Balkan will be held in Trieste on July 12th.
