The Highest EU Representative for Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini,
attended a visit in Albania today and held a speech in front of the
Albanian Parliament. Almost her entire speech was focused on reforms,
especially the justice one.
“We are working together very well and on many things. But it is time to go to another level. To do this we need a wide and thorough reform of the judiciary. Let’s not forget what this was for. It wsa about equality between all Albanian citizens, despite the social status, surnames or financial power. You all must trust these institutions and the state”, she declared.
Mogherini reminded the Albanian lawmakers that it is not something new that Brussels conditions opening the accession negotiations with this reform.
“Do what needs to be done. Pass the reform, because I know that all of you want Albania to progress. Your citizens are waiting for you to do this. You have an obligation towards your country and towards the entire Europe. This is why we give such a huge importance to this reform that would make way for a positive recommendation that would open the negotiations”, declared the EU high-level representative.
By the end of her speech, Mogherini made a suggestion to the Albanian Parliament Speaker, who were all present in Parliament as always in these occasions.
“Liberate the part that damages your country and bring Albania closer to the EU”, she appealed.
