Modern agricultural market in Elbasan

Albania has the first modern agricultural market that can be compared
with those of EU countries. This market was built within six months,
with the support of the Albanian government, for the farmers of Elbasan.
The market includes shops, places dedicated to vans with country
produce, showrooms, giant refrigerators, cafes and restaurants.

300 new jobs are also part of the investment that Prime Minister Rama visited before the inauguration, to make sure that everything was OK.

“We are very grateful, because with this market we resolved not only a problem of this area, but this is an investment that honors us and gives us the possibility to promote it as a success model even for other areas, so that people start seeing another perspective with these markets. We must bring here people from other areas, from north to south of Albania, to take this experience with them”, Rama declared.

The Minister of Agriculture, Edmond Panariti, declared that prices should be visible in these markets, in order to avoid abuses.

“We should hold a mini-auction every day, some kind of mini-agricultural stock market. You have ordered a huge screen which will have the daily prices, which will be visible for everyone, so that there is no room for speculation. This is very positive, because we must start inserting the price transparency mechanism”, Panariti declared.

Inspection in these markets is also easier for state structures. The formalization of the economy and trading based on the standards requested by the National Food Authority are more realizable in these markets, according to the Director of the Agency for Rural and Agricultural Development.

As for those who will benefit from the agricultural support, the government says that this project had been prepared for 10 years, but the bureaucratic delays have been insurmountable.
