The vice chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of Security, Ilir
Gjoni, declared that the Military Intelligence Service has used
equipments not for military purposes, but for spying on the opposition.
Gjoni published the order of the Defence Minister, Arben Imami, and the value of the spying equipments.
“The Defence Minister has signed a 1.5 million EUR purchase of operational equipments for the support of our military forces. The order says that they are needed for supporting our troops abroad. The interceptions in the Albanian Republic are made only by order of the Court or the General Prosecution, at least the ones that are known, not Berisha’s or Imami’s orders”, Gjoni declared.
According to Ilir Gjoni, the purchase of these equipments is unjustified for as long that the Albanian missions in Afghanistan and Iraq operate under the command of other countries, and the intelligence data are supplied by these countries.
“The Defence Minister cannot justify it by saying that the equipments were not used within the Albanian territory. The Minister refers to the NATO and uses it as a cover for his abuses and corruption. He can say if the Albanian forces are acting autonomous or under a foreign command. The fact is that we have always been under the command of other countries in these wars, and these equipments are unnecessary”, Gjoni declared.
Since Minister Arben Imami has refused a Parliamentary Inspection of the Defence Ministry, the vice chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of Security he invited him to answer if the Intelligence Agency of NATO is aware of this purchase.
