While parliamentary commissions are discussing once again to import
waste materials, the Minister of Environment, Lefter Koka, thinks that
the Albanian government now has the necessary mechanism to control them.
“This majority thinks that in three years, we have consolidated inspection in customs checkpoints, and I think that the State Inspectorate can control the products that enter the Albanian territory”, said Lefter Koka, Minister of Environment.
The argument that stopped the Rama government from signing the import right after coming to power was the inability to control the list of wastes enteirng the country.
But three years later, the government thinks that the moratorium is not a solution and all parties need to sit and discuss the issue without prejudices.
The Minsiter says that the recycling industry is unable to find its raw material within the country, because it would require citizens to divide their wastes before throwing them. This has caused difficulties for the businessmen who invested 100 million EUR in this sector.
