In the Murriz tunnel, part of the Arbri Road in the northeast of Albania, work is being done on completing the last 400 meters.
Minister of Energy, Belinda Balluku, with the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Gentian Gjyli, as well as representatives of the company that carries out the works were at the construction site and closely followed the progress of the work.
The work has not stopped for a moment, but the operators say that the geology and the numerous water sources in the area have affected the pace of the works. The work is continuing in both directions with the aim that at the end of this year the tunnel will be opened to the traffic, thus completing one of the most important works of Arbri Road highway.
87% of the works have been completed so far according to the company representatives who presented in detail the large volume of work, part of which are 11 connecting tunnels with the main and the emergency tunnel.
During the inspection, Deputy Prime Minister Balluku emphasized the importance of this work, which will significantly shorten the distance between the northeastern district of Dibra and the capital Tirana, simultaneously promoting the economic development of the area, where the accommodation units and the number of visitors have increased in recent years.
“We have set ourselves some deadlines that I really hope we keep, as this is an extraordinary road axis to the northeast of the country, and then to the north. Dibra considers this road very important, as well as the entire province of Mati, where agrotourism and other industrial units are being developed. So I very much hope that this tunnel, as a crowning achievement of this work, will be closed within 2024 and in fact it looks like things are moving forward”, said Minister Balluku.
The Murriz tunnel has a length of 3.78 kilometers and consists of two galleries, the traffic and the emergency one.
