Although the electricity price is expected to increase on January 1st 2015, the government says it will be lower than the cost.
Minister Damian Gjiknuri said that the state will keep paying part of the cost, for not passing it to the consumers.
“With the new fees of the Energy Regulation Entity, we still will be unable to cover the entire cost, due to social elements. The government will keep carrying the burden, although a lighter one. We hope that in the next year 120 million USD will be spared by radical measures, which is reducing the losses with 5% and increasing investments”, Gjiknuri declared.
The government vowed to compensate 204.000 families in need, but they ecluded any amnesty for the old obligations and fines Gjiknuri says that there will be a facilitating scheme for these obligations.
“We are thinking to create installments for the payments, or other forms of encouragement. But there will no pardon, and this must be clear”, Gjiknuri underlined.
The government has created a four-year plan, together with the World Bank, to remove the sector from the crisis. This plan foresees 400 million USD in investments, reducing losses with 5% each year and changing fees. According to Gjiknuri, these measures will make the electricity company in 2018 a profitable one.
