The Ministry of Economy declared that it will not give any more mining
permissions, but the underground richness will come under competitive
procedures.

“It will not be the business subjects who will ask mining permissions from the state, but the state will offer it to them, based on the studies for the development of mining activities”, said Sokol Mati, representative of the Ministry of Economy.

The Ministry of Economy declared that there are 437 mining areas that will pass under competitive procedures. Ministry experts say that the competition will be a precondition, aiming to grow the value of the assets.

“By not allowing the segmentation of the mines; by not giving one mining object to 20-30 business subjects; by asking concentration of the capital and the possibility of a further processing of the mineral; by remaining at the area of processed goods for export, the value of this natural richness will grow further”, Mati declared.

The minerals are one of main Albanian exports. But World Bank experts say that Albania is selling its assets very cheap, because the minerals are simply extracted by the ground and exported, without gaining any added value through processing.
