Miners refuse ACR offer

02/09/2011 10:20

The concessionary ACR Company asked the Bulqize mineworkers to return at work, giving them the opportunity of benefiting a 13th monthly payment as bonus.

The request that was made yesterday by ACR received a negative answer by
the miners, who say that they will not start working if the
syndications will not guarantee the signing of the agreement.

The
financial status of the Bulqize miners has deteriorated, since they
have not been paid for a long time. This situation doesn’t allow them to
send the children at school, since they cannot afford to buy their
books.

ACR: Miners to return at work

The President of the ACR Company, Rohtraut Skatsche-Depisch wished the miners a happy Fitr Bayram day, and expressed her trust that the difficult situation will be overcome through dialogue.

“ACR will cover Bayram dinner expenses, since the miners’ conditions have deteriorated”, the President declared, appealing the miners to return at work.

The President of the company declared that ACR accepted the miners’ request for a wage increase of 20%, promising to improve their working conditions.

After publishing the open letter, the head of the Syndication Confederation, Kol Nikolla considered the message for Bayram a simple formality.

“ACR should sign the agreement with the syndication in a legal way. Signing the agreement with ACR through illegal ways would be the best wish for the miners”, Nikolla declared, emphasizing that the protest would finish.

A few days earlier, the President of the Austrian Company visited the town of Bulqize in her efforts to find a solution to the conflict with the miners.

She was welcomed by the Company leaders and then asked the workers to create a representation of four miners who would negotiate the conflict resolution.

Due to the Company’s preconditions that this group should not have syndication leaders or previously sued miners, the negotiations failed.
