The energetic sector in our country has attracted hundreds of local and
foreign investors, since the construction and exploitation of hydropower
plants is considered a profit business.

The fact that Albania is making use of only 40% of the hydropower capacities means that there are great potentials. For this reason, Austrian investors have seen Albania as an opportunity for increasing investments.

The Ministry of Economy says that mostly Italian and now Austrian companies have shown a greater interest lately.

Matilda Merxhani, General Director of New Projects at the Ministry of Economy says that up to now, the total investment value for the 100 concessionary agreements that were signed after 2006 reach 260 billion ALL, while the 14 local hydropower plants that will finish this year reach an investment value of 6.9 billion ALL.

The concessionary projects that are being executed by foreign investors reach 200 billion ALL.

In total, the investment value surpasses 470 billion ALL only in the hydropower plants, but if the coal thermo central in Porto Romano project will start, this number will increase with 30%.

Merxhani explains that the energy producing sectors are installing 1.3 million MW and will produce 5 billion KW.

The numbers were made public in yesterday’s conference, organized by “The International Business Agency” (IBA) and the Austrian Group “Global Hydro energy” which presented in the seminar “Development of hydro energetic projects for Albania” the latest equipments of modern technology that the world market uses for the highest standards of the hydropower plants.
