The leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Ilir Meta,
declared that they are going to the January 21st elections in a race
without opponents.
“An opposition that does nothing more than slander is pitiful. This makes the race easier for us regarding citizens, but it makes democracy more poor, because we are in a race without opponents, without rivalry, without ideas, without a program”, Meta declared.
The risk with this, according to Meta, is complacency.
“We must be carefull and not fall prey to complacency. We do not believe that miracles have happened in these 18 months, but we have faced some basic dangers for our economy. We have stopped a big debt. We have repaid debts for public works. We have started working with the restructuring of our economy from a consumption economy to a production economy”, the Parliament Speaker declared.
Meta declared that the majority has undertaken a series of important reforms, but he expressed his regret for the lack of contribution by the opposition in these reforms. He valued the territorial administrative reform as the most important.
