The Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta declared that the postponing of the
candidate status was not an answer to Albania, but it was due to the
procedures of the European Union.
“The decision-making process of the European Union is not up to Albania. This is the case, and I believe that the European Union will resolve it in the future. We will continue the integhration path, because the reforms are made above all for our own citizens”, Meta declared.
When asked about the opposition, which blamed the majority for the missing no, Meta jokingly said that he is still a devoted fan of the Dutch football team, although they led the group of skeptics who demanded more time for Albania.
“The support of the Dutch team in football will be the same as before, although that team is not at its best day. I’m convinced that the Dutch football team will have better days ahead. As for Mr.Berisha’s Facebook status, and his accusations, I would invite him to restrain himself from this pleasure, because it might not be well-thought, since it makes him look as he is ready to declare himself more Dutch than his party leader (Referring to the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, who has a Dutch citizenship)”, Meta declared.
