Meta Trial, this autumn

The Supreme Court decided to conduct the trial of the former Deputy
Prime Minister Ilir Meta this autumn, one week after assigning the names
of the experts that will investigate the video registration that
allegedly shows Meta offering a corruptive affair to Dritan Prifti.

The leader of the judge panel, Adrian Dvorani, declared that despite the efforts of the Court, they have not been able to find information on the experts, therefore they adjourned the Court to September 9th.

But the Court did not give any detail on the criteria that will be followed for choosing the expert that will investigate the video registration, now turned into a very delicate issue. Meta’s defense lawyer insisted to hold the investigation in parallel with the trial, and while waiting the Court to assign the investigating experts and to hear the witnesses, he gave a press release for the media.

“I asked the witnesses to be interrogated while the video registration investigation process is still underway”, declared Gëzim Veleshnja.

Autumn is expected to present new surprises for the Meta-Prifti trial. Firstly, the court will decide if the expert will be a local or a foreigner. If he will be Albanian, will he be from the state Crime Forensic Lab, or from a private lab in Tirana? This will be solved at least until this September, when Meta and Prifti will also be confronted in the Penal College, with Prifti standing as a witness and Meta as a defendant.
