Meta: Transparency for chemical weapons

07/11/2013 00:00

The Socialist Movement for Integration leader, Ilir Meta,  was invited
on Top Channel’s “Top Story”, where he commented the government’s
actions for the “Ending Craziness” operation, the illegal constructions
and the Syrian chemical weapon issue. For the latter Meta said that
every decision will be transparent and will pass through the Parliament.
However, he is skeptical for Albania’s abilities to treat Assad’s
chemical weapons.

Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta: “I am not an arm or environment expert. I share the same opinion with you. I don’t believe that we have these abilities, because since other and bigger countries don’t say that they have these capacities, we cannot continue with the theory that we’re the best in the world. I understand that this situation has been created by the news coming from local and foreign media outlets, and I know that it will amplify. But I have trust and I want to underline the transparency issue, which will be verified, and there’s no reason why we take decisions that damage the future of our citizens and our future generations. But there’s no reason why to rush things with prejudice and by blaming anyone. Albania is a NATO member, has its obligations, and will take all the responsibilities,” Meta declared.

Sokol Balla: But Albania cannot become NATO’s rubbish bin.

Ilir Meta: “I didn’t finish my argument. Albania will take only the responsibilities that we can carry. We cannot take responsibilities that our shoulders cannot bear”.

Meta declared that he supports the government’s decision for the casinos and betting shops, saying that illegality and tax evasion in this sector was evident. The Parliament Speaker mentioned legality and commented the decisions of the task forces against the construction chaos throughout Albania. As for the relations with the opposition, Meta underlined the new Parliament climate and also Top Channel’s “Fiks Fare” video of paid voters in Korce, which spurred political debates.

“It is important that for the Democratic Party, the former jackal now turned into a dove (referring to the Democratic Party’s accusations against Top Channel’s “Fiks Fare” when the DP was in government), and I believe that the media has the right to investigate and present them, but I am convinced that justice will say its word. This is the stance held by the Albanian Prime Minister and Socialist Party leader, and I think that we all should support this”, Meta declared.
