The situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has led to distance clashes between the Prime Minister and the President.

The President Ilir Meta made public a letter sent to the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Assembly and the Minister of Health requesting information on the number of tests, the medical and hospital capacities and budget forecasts to cope with the situation.

“The pandemic situation has worsened significantly in recent weeks. I think that a complete reassessment of the situation and the measures taken should be made, considering the approach of the cold season as an aggravating factor. The basic elements, clearly defined by the WHO, such as testing, tracking and treatment, naturally require an intensification. ”

Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted quickly, urging the President not to get involved in work that does not belong to him and advised him to call on his former party to stop calls against anti-Covid measures.

“Ilir, you have no competence to interfere in the work of experts in the management of the medical situation! Look at the job you have which you have not been doing for a long time! Experts are the ones who decide on the steps to be taken each day, based on the fall-winter strategy. The increase in numbers is within the forecasts, we must avoid a new closure at all costs. ”

In another response of the Presidency the Prime Minister was reminded of two articles of the Constitution that give Ilir Meta the right as President to request information from the institutions.
