The leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Ilir Meta,
expressed his stance in favor of electing a President that stands above
the parties and their interests.
This way Meta excluded the political candidacies that have been mentioned so far, such as the Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, and the former Socialist Prime Minister, Fatos Nano.
Meta gave this declaration after meeting the SMI women at the city of Kucove.
“Albania will certainly have its President on the right time, the future President, which is an unavoidable election, based on the constitution. The consensus is necessary and welcomed, but it cannot be used as a way for remaining without President, which means that at any case we will have a President who is elected according to the Constitution and with a wide base. SMI is in service of a constructive and transparent process and we need a figure that guarantees the functionality of institutions, their constant modernization and a figure that stands above the parties and their interests”, the SMI leader declared.
