The Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta, declared that the administrative
territorial reform is very important and that there are no electoral
goals hiding behind it.
During a press conference with the head of the Social-Democratic group of the European Parliament, Hannes Swoboda, Meta decllared that Albania will save 80 million USD from the new territorial division.
“Only from the administrative cost that would be saved based on this reform, 80 million USD would be profited. We are taking loans and paying interests when we have such huge reserves that need to be used for the citizens to profit from them and to offer more qualitative services”, Meta declared.
The reform was supported also by the Austrian European Parliament Member, Hannes Swoboda.
“I am from Austria and we have done this 40-50 years ago. Without wanting to criticize Albania of being behind, this reform needs to be done. According to the talks with the opposition leader, the Prime Minister and the Parliament Speaker, I see no obstacle for this reform. The Community services cannot reach a good quality without these local authorities. The European experience showed that this helps in making the country more democratic”, Swoboda declared.
EPM Swoboda declare dthat he was disappointed that Albania didnd’t receive the candidate status, and that this rejection is not related to the Albanian government, but to internal problems of the European Union.
“I think that these extremist forces had the possibility to affect their governments for Albania, especially in Netherlands. The Euroepan Parliament elections also have been affected in some parties, and these parties reinforced their stances when word spread that the Albanian government is not working. We appeal the opposition to do its job, but also think more when saying that the Albanian government is not working, because these words are actually against their country”, Swoboda declared.
