After being voted President of Albania by MPs, Ilir Meta will continue
to be Speaker of Parliament until July 24th. But he will resign from his
post as leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration and will be
replaced by his closest collaborator, Justice Minister Petrit Vasili.
“It is not my duty and obligation to make promises for the next four years, in the name of the SMI. From today, I will be relieved from any relation with the Socialist Party and their leaders. All competences will pass to Mr.Vasili and the SMI forums”, Meta declared.
Meta was careful to specify that the relations between the Socialist Party and SMI now are on the hands of Petrit Vasili and SMI structures.
As for the political situation, Meta expressed his readiness to meet anyone and try to find a solution.
“I hope that in cooperation with President Nishani, the opposition, the Prime Minister and anyone else, we can sit and find a way to make our country go through with an all-inclusive electoral process”, Meta said.
