Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta said that his visit to Greece was positive,
although it took place in a not very positive moment, as regards
political atmosphere.
Meta denies of having held a stance against that of the Foreign Minister. “This is a speculation, and my declaration for the Greek journalist regarding the Cham case was more than clear: we have different approaches on that”, Meta underlined.
Meta rejected voices saying that he didn’t raise the Cham case during his stay in Greece.
“I said that we need to cure the wounds of both our countries with calm and maturity, so that we don’t create new ones. I have also said that the Cham case is the worst of them all between Albania and Greece, and as such it needs a climate in which we can work constructively”, Meta said.
He underlined that he treated the war law and other similar issues during this visit. “The war law is still in effect and this case, including others, were raised en every meeting, and there is enough political will to react”, Meta said, warning that the next governments in Greece may not be as ready as the current one to resolve the bilateral issues.
He quoted the declaration released by the Italian Parliament Speaker in Tirana, Laura Boldrini: “Europe needs Albania as an important partner of a region that is full of nationalist and dangerous tensions”.
